OCSB International Student Program Award For Citizenship

Graduate Award (Grade 12): $600 Value
Junior Award (Grade 9-11): $300 Value

This award honours an OCSB International Student who demonstrates the Deep Learning competency of Citizenship. Citizenship is the skill that allows a student to connect with people with diverse world views and perspectives diplomatically. People who master this skill are engaged members of society who contribute to improving our world for the benefit of all.

OCSB International Student Program Award For Character

Graduate Award (Grade 12): $600 Value
Junior Award (Grade 9-11): $300 Value

This award honours an OCSB International Student who demonstrates the Deep Learning competency of Character. Character is one of the more apparent skills that a student will need throughout their whole life. This skill describes how a student interacts with others in the world and produces important traits like perseverance, resilience, humility and kindness.

This award honours an OCSB International Student who demonstrates the Deep Learning competency of Communication. Communication is an essential skill that will help a student interact with others, express their thoughts, feelings and ideas. This skill also allows a student to understand others and involves using a variety of tools and mediums to connect with the right audience.

This award honours an OCSB International Student who demonstrates the Deep Learning competency of Critical Thinking. Critical Thinking is the ability to thoughtfully evaluate information and arguments by seeing patterns and making connections. This skill is becoming more and more important as information becomes easier to access and will help a student apply information and knowledge in the real world.

This award honours an OCSB International Student who demonstrates the Deep Learning competency of Collaboration. Collaboration is a skill that allows a student to work well with others. A successful collaborator knows how to offer their unique talents and abilities while accepting, valuing and building upon the strengths that others bring to the table.

This award honours an OCSB International Student who demonstrates the Deep Learning competency of Creativity. Creativity is a valuable skill that allows a student to take an idea and turn it into a reality. This skill is demonstrated when a student is able to “think outside the box,” be resourceful, and take risks to come up with innovative ideas and solutions to problems.

Where can International Students register with OCSB?

Are there financial support for International Students?

No, International students will have to apply for financial assistance from their home country. We do not offer entrance grants or loans for International Students.

How do I make a fee payment?

Fees can be paid by wire transfer via western union. For more information please contact admissions@ocsb.ca

I would like to talk to someone about course selection, who can I connect with?

If you are a registered student, you can connect directly to your academic counsellor (guidance counselor). If you are looking to apply and need guidance you can contact the Admissions Team via email: discover@ocsb.ca

Are there any extracurricular activities?

Our OSCB schools offer a large variety of extracurricular activities in the areas of arts, sports, academics, leadership, technology, recreation and nature.

Can I connect with other OCSB International Students?

Please visit our social media pages on Instagram and Facebook where students share their experiences and provide answers to frequently asked questions. 

Can I attend school virtually?

Yes. International Students also have the option to apply to our Virtual Academy where students are able to receive credits without leaving their country.

We have the honour to receive recognition both internationally and within our community. Each accomplishment reinforces our Strategic Commitments to Be Community, Be Well, and Be Innovative. Here are some of our recent awards and accomplishments.

Deep Learning Distinction Award

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is the first school district ever to receive the Deep Learning Distinction Award. Over 1500 schools across eight countries take part in the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning network, and the OCSB is the first board from all participating countries to receive this honour. 

Top 3 Energy Performing School Boards

The OCSB is one of the Top 3 Energy Performing School Boards in Ontario. It is recognized by the Sustainable Schools program, which works with Boards across Canada to establish best practice energy efficiency targets.

Top Terry Fox Fundraising Secondary School

Holy Trinity Catholic High School is the top Terry Fox Fundraising secondary school in Ontario. The school was recognized for its annual commitment to eradicating cancer.

Descartes Medal Award

St. Pius X High School Educator Lili Bastianelli received the Descartes Medal for her contributions to the teaching of mathematics.

Loran Scholar

Kinsley Jura, a St. Peter High School Student, is a 2020 Loran Scholar. She competed with 5,194 applicants from 21 regions across Canada to be one of just 36 chosen to receive the prestigious scholarship.

Schulich Leader Scholarship Fund Winner

Grade 12, Notre Dame High School student, Erin Donahue-Boyle, is a 2020 Schulich Leader Scholarship Fund winner. The Fund supports undergraduate scholarships each year in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

National Classroom of the Future Award

The Grade 1 teaching team at St. Thomas More School won Mindshare Learning’s Classroom of the Future Challenge for demonstrating the role that technology plays in engaging and motivating students in its classroom.

National Entrepreneurial Award

Grade 5 class at St. Augustine School channelled their curiosity into a marketing idea to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, winning them the Judge’s Choice Award in the Learning Partnership’s Entrepreneurial Adventure Program. The students raised proceeds for CHEO by organizing a performance of an adapted play, which profiled the social struggles that Syrian refugees might experience upon arriving in Canada. 

Canada’s Outstanding Principal Recognition

St. Patrick’s High School principal, Brid McDonald, was honoured as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals by the Learning Partnership for her exemplary leadership and commitment.

National Provincial French Language Winners

Two Ottawa Catholic School Board students placed first and second in the Ontario French Public Speaking Competition. Other students received university scholarships as national video contest winners for their creative French video entries on the topic of social media and virtual identity.

Exceptional and Collaborative Mathematics Teaching

Math department teachers at St. Patrick’s High School received an award from the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education for Exceptional and Collaborative Mathematics Teaching, recognizing their creative use of modern technology and open communication channels to help students succeed in math.

Capital Educator Award Nominees

The annual EduGala Awards were established in 2001 by a group of business and education leaders as a realization of their goal to recognize the role of the many dedicated top educators in Ottawa, and OCSB has had 22 nominees in the past 8 years.
